A1200 FPU upgrade (onboard) which includes socket, FPU and installation.

What does the modification do?

This FPU modification adds a real FPU to the A1200 motherboard, there has always been a place (U0) for an onboard FPU but it was never added. This is a perfect compliment for a stock A1200 or one with an accelerator without an FPU option, for example The TF1230 or any standard ram upgrade like the 11Mb Fast Ram upgrade. However there are a couple of limitations of adding an onboard FPU.

  • The FPU will be using the CPU clock which is at 14Mhz, which means the FPU will be running at 14Mhz
  • The FPU will be disabled if you use a 040 or 060 accelerator, for example TF1260. This is because both the 040 and 060 processors do not acknowledge external FPUs as you can get those processors with built in FPUs.

This modification is available as an option on our A1200 recapping service, ReAmiga 1200 and Refurbished units.

Prerequisites 
  • Timing fix is strongly recommended on your A1200 motherboard. We can do this free of charge if you send your board to us (return shipping does need to be covered).
  • Kickstart ROM 3.1, 3.1.4, 3.2, 3.x or 3.9 (not compatible with 3.0).
  • Some boards do not have a chamfered edge on the connector (1A and 1B boards) which may bend the connector pins, if your unsure please ask.

  What's included?
  • Professionally refurbished Amiga 1200 Unit (excluding mouse and PSU, these are options that can be added below).
  What is refurbished? Each Commodore Amiga 1200 mainboard is professionally recapped (standard or Polymer is available at extra cost) and deep cleaned using a Ultrasonic cleaner, bathed using deionised water and professional grade PCB/Flux cleaning solution. Once completed it is dried and a full diagnostic test is completed. Each unit is thoroughly inspected make sure the Amiga 1200 worked as it did when it first came from the factory back in the 1990’s, case and keyboard is stripped and cleaned but due to age may show signs of use. Each Amiga 1200 is refurbished to the customers specifications, with that in mind each unit can take 14/21 working days to prepare and test depending on demand.   What is Ultrasonic cleaning? Ultrasonic cleaning is a process that uses ultrasound (usually from 20–40 kHz) to agitate a fluid, this fluid is made up for this specific job which is to clean and remove any flux left over from recapping. We use deionised water (deionized depending where your from) and professional grade PCB cleaner. Amiga A1200 motherboard fully refurbished (various motherboard revisions). Each A1200 motherboard is professionally refurbished and has had the following work completed:
  • Tested before any work has began.
  • All electrolytic capacitors removed using professional tools and techniques (no twisting off caps and boards a pre-warmed before the removing capacitors using hot air) this puts far less stress to the board itself.
  • Pads cleaned with flux/wick/IPA.
  • New electrolytic capacitors installed using our premium polymer capacitors.
  • Modulator removed.
  • Timing fix applied for ACA , TF1230, TF1260 Accelerator Cards.
  • Board retested - Video (composite and RGB), Audio, CIA, Floppy, IDE, Parallel, Serial, Mouse, Joystick, DF1.
  • Board ultrasonic cleaned at 60 degrees using deionised water and professional PCB flux cleaner and then dried.
  • Board tested again and tested for a minimum of 4 hrs playing a rolling demo.

Amiga A1200 recapping service (Premium) using hybrid polymer capacitors (never leak again!), all board revisions (1A,1B,1D1,1D4,2B). NOTE this is NOT a repair service.
  • Check of the board before recapping is begun (any faults found before recapping will be reported back)
  • Removal of existing capacitors (both SMD and radial capacitors).
  • Cleanup and preparation of area.
  • Replace using either polymer Panasonic/Wurth/KEMET capacitors.
  • Retest (Video, Audio, Floppy Boot, CF Card boot).
